EN FRANÇAIS

APRIL 14, 2012

Two names, a date, a workshop and a ball

The purpose of this day is for everyone to share in dancing ¾  more specifically, English Country Dancing. Participants will embark on a journey to the past through music and dance in an atmosphere of pleasure and simplicity.

John Playford is a key figure in English Country Dance. Playford pioneered the publication of English dances in The English Dancing Master, in 1651. Over time, many other choreographers from different countries have followed in his footsteps. Many other choreographers from different countries followed suit, and today Gary Roodman choreographs and publishes new country dances set to music that respects both their spirit and tradition.

April 14, 2012 will be a special day, which will allow participants to learn and experience these dances. From 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., Arduina Alonzo and Michel Landry will be leading a workshop. In the evening, from 8:00 to 11:00 p.m., a ball will be held with Michel Landry as the dance master. The ball will be a fitting way to end the English Country Dance activities organized in 2011-2012. All the dances on the program will be explained once in French and in English and then danced. The ball is geared toward people with some experience in English Country Dancing, and therefore attendance at the workshops held during the year will be to their advantage. For the ball, period attire is encouraged but not required.

For both the workshop and the ball, the musical group Rufty Tufty from Montreal, with Sally Campbell, Isabelle Robichaud, Sean McCutcheon and Gaetano Rondelli, will provide the music.

Both of these activities on April 14 will take place in the Old Chapel of Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf, in Montréal (see the map below).
