EN FRANÇAIS

10th Anniversary Weekend

APRIL 26, 27 and 28, 2013

Who could have imagined ten years ago that we would have come so far? Having started with a simple desire to share our love and excitement for English Country Dance and its music, we decided in September of 2002 to undertake a series of French workshops in order to teach those dances that we had loved for so long.

With time, our passion for history allowed us to include context, historical background, and little anecdotes for many of the dances. A country dance opens up a page of history - it was up to us to make it alive with our research.

It is to be noted that English Country Dance is popular even today. Composers and choreographers have been active for over forty years creating new choreographies while at the same time holding true to the figures and basic steps as described by John Playford in 1651. Each modern creation, as in the past, emphasizes an event, a wedding, an anniversary, a birth, a departure - and it is in this spirit of continuity that our annual ball carries the name From Playford to Roodman.

During these ten years we have also nurtured the social part of dancing - and that is where the name of our workshops Around a Cup of Tea has taken its meaning. It is therefore in the name of enjoyment and friendship that our dancers now engage in the dance steps. This delightful complicity has even crossed borders, especially the one with our southern neighbors.

Long live dance, long live history, long live friendship!
