EN FRANÇAIS

MOSTLY REGENCY

APRIL 26 and 27, 2014

Two names, two dates, two workshops and a Regency ball

The purpose of this weekend is for everyone to share moments in dancing - more specifically, English Country Dancing. Participants will embark on a journey to the past through music and dance in an atmosphere of pleasure and simplicity.

John Playford is a key figure in English Country Dance because he pioneered the publication of The English Dancing Master, in 1651. Over time, many other choreographers from different countries have followed in his footsteps.  Today Gary Roodman choreographs and publishes new English Country Dances set to music that respects both their spirit and tradition.

April 26 and 27, 2014 will be a special weekend, which will allow participants to learn and experience these dances. Saturday, April 26, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Arduina Alonzo and Michel Landry will be leading a workshop. In the evening, from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., a ball will be held with Michel Landry as dance master. The ball will be a fitting way to end the English Country Dance activities organized in 2013-2014. All the dances on the program will be explained once both in French and in English and then danced. The ball is geared towards people with some experience and therefore attendance at the workshops held during the year will be to their advantage. For the ball, period attire is encouraged but not required. Sunday, April 27, from 10:00 a.m. to noon, Arduina Alonzo and Michel Landry will be leading a farewell workshop. This farewell workshop will be followed by an optional farewell brunch.

For the workshop and the ball on Saturday, the musical group from Montreal Les Triolets, with Bruno Gilbert-Samson, Florence Boyer-Gignac, Marianne Lonergan-Pilotto and maestro Bertrand Lamoureux as artistic director will provide the music.

For the Sunday morning workshop, the Montreal group Rufty Tufty with Suzanne Beauregard, Sally Campbell, Sarah Crawford and Sean McCutcheon will provide the music

These dance activities on April 26 and 27 will take place in the Old Chapel of Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf, in Montréal (see the map below).
